Functional Assessment in ACT with Dr. Germán Teti

Dr. Germán Teti

Connections Behavior Planning and Intervention is excited to welcome Dr. Germán Teti for a Continuing Education webinar for Behavior Analysts! This event will focus on Functional Assessment in the context of Acceptance and Commitment Training.

Abstract:

Functional analysis is one of the most relevant skills for assessment and intervention in ACT. Although therapists often understand the theoretical principles underlying the process, they frequently face some difficulties when trying to develop fluency in its application. During training, participants will learn to go from the initial complain (symptoms) to a functional analytical approach (psychological inflexibility) by means of the five-column functional analysis. Furthermore, RFT basic principles and their usefulness during the process of functional exploration will be articulated. Thus, the development of a flexible repertoire will be promoted in order to enlighten the processes of psychological inflexibility and flexibility.

About the Presenter – Dr. Germán Teti

My name is Germán Teti, I am a psychiatrist and an ACT therapist.  I am the President of the Argentina Center for Contextual Therapies Foundation. Besides, I am the Head of the inpatient Unit at the Braulio Moyano Public Mental Health Hospital in the city of Buenos Aires.

I started my residency in psychiatry in 2007 and from my beginnings I was very interested in cognitive-behavioral psychotherapies, a fact that led me to study abroad and in my country. In 2013, I did my first intensive training in acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) at the Boot Camp in Florida and since that moment my interest in the model has increased to such an extent that it has become my main clinical reference. I´ve had the opportunity to attend many workshops where I could learn from important referents in this field such as Steven Hayes, Kelly Wilson, Carmen Luciano and Robyn Walser.

Later I attended the last 5 ACBS conferences where I presented workshops on functional analysis ACT. I can say that teaching and training professionals has become the most enriching experience of my professional career.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Describe the principles of functional Analysis and its articulation in the clinical practice
  2. Identify skills needed to ask questions fluently about the inflexible regulation pattern.
  3. Describe how RFT principles help to explore psychological inflexibility and flexibility processes.
