Connections Behavior Planning and Intervention is welcomes Dr. Matthew Skinta, Peer-Reviewed ACT Trainer, for a two-hour webinar for Behavior Analysts! This event will focus on the role of sexual/gender-identity as it impacts overt social behaviors.
Abstract
The purpose of this training is to provide a model for integrating findings on sexual and gender minority stress with behavior analytic principles, particularly in regard to social interactions. Participants will learn of common interpersonal behaviors that are experienced as challenging among the general public, and those specific to sexual and gender minority people. While grounded in the Functional Analytic Psychotherapy literature, no prior experience with FAP is required. Using the model of the Matrix from ACT, we will practice sorting interpersonal behaviors as under aversive or appetitive control as a framework for the collaborative development of treatment goals. Finally, a variety of clinical examples will be presented for participants to practice these skills.
About the Presenter
Matthew D. Skinta, PhD, ABPP, is a board-certified clinical health psychologist and an Assistant Professor at Roosevelt University. Dr. Skinta’s work emphasizes the relationship between cultivating vulnerability, acceptance, and self-compassion and well-being among sexual and gender minority individuals. He is a peer-reviewed acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) trainer, and is certified as a compassion cultivation training (CCT) teacher and as a trainer of functional analytic psychotherapy (FAP). He splits time with his husband between Chicago and San Francisco, when not offering trainings around the world.

- Participants will sort aversive and appetitive interpersonal behaviors on the Matrix for case conceptualization.
- Participants will accurately identify behavioral targets for intervention in case studies.
