Connections Behavior Planning and Intervention is excited to welcome Dr. Kate Morrison for a Continuing Education webinar for Behavior Analysts! This event focuses on strategies to support clients with Obsessive-Compulsive and related disorders.
Abstract:
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is gaining evidence as a strong treatment option for obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and related disorders (e.g., trichotillomania, excoriation, nail biting, tics/Tourette) for children, adolescents, and adults. This webinar will provide an introduction to ACT for OCD and related disorders. Dr. Morrison will bring her 12+ years of clinical experience in using ACT to treat OCD and related disorders across the lifespan to provide practical clinical concepts and skills.
This webinar covers the basic aspects of OCD and related disorders, how ACT applies to these concerns, and how to implement ACT. Dr. Morrison discusses how ACT is well-suited to address the core components of OCD and related disorders: repetitive behaviors brought on by distressing/uncomfortable internal experiences that interfere with functioning. Participants will practice conceptualization of OCD and related disorders and determine which ACT processes are most relevant for case examples.
ACT has been studied as a stand-alone intervention and in conjunction with other OCD and related disorder therapies (i.e., exposure and response prevention, habit reversal training). Dr. Morrison shares information and provide examples on how to complete exposures and other behavioral practices from an ACT framework and as a stand-alone intervention.
The webinar includes case examples, interactive practices, and slides. Clinical materials (e.g., handouts, tracking forms) and resources for additional learning are shared.
