Why Are They Not Talking? Solutions to Support Progress in Speech and Language Programs with Andreane Gaulin, BCBA, CCC-SLP

Andreane Gaulin, BCBA, CCC-SLP

Connections Behavior Planning and Intervention is excited to welcome Andreane Gaulin, BCBA and Speech-Language Pathologist, for a 2-hour webinar for Behavior Analysts! This event focuses on the topic of speech and language development from a Behavior Analytic perspective.

Abstract

Have you ever been to a point in your ABA program when you thought, “I’m not sure where to go from here. How do I help this child talk?”

To assist BCBAs in answering this question, three main scenarios will be covered, with practical solutions to help each type of child meet their ABA goals. 1) The child who is not talking; 2) the child who has a minimal echoic repertoire; 3) The child who is only manding. The presentation will cover helpful strategies from the field of speech-language pathology, explained in behavioral terms, that have been shown effective to increase children’s verbal repertoire. It is aimed at equipping the BCBA with tools to support meaningful progress in verbal behavior. Video demonstrations of therapists working with children will also be presented to illustrate the strategies.

This presentation will also review some of the biological causes which could explain a lack of progress in speech or language goals, and help the BCBA identify them and make a referral if needed.
