- Connections Behavior Planning and Intervention welcomes Dr. Natasha Marroquin, BCBA-D, for an online webinar on using ACT and MI to strengthen partnerships.
Abstract:
Dr. Natasha Marroquin will explore the integration of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Motivational Interviewing (MI) within behavior analytic practice, with an emphasis on cultivating practitioner flexibility and contextual sensitivity. Rather than relying on manualized interventions, this approach encourages behavior analysts to remain attuned to the interplay between client history and the broader contingencies, that when acknowledged create a stronger foundation for services. ACT and MI provide frameworks that support a responsive and values-driven process. It also invites practitioners to reflect on their own role as part of the therapeutic context. This exploration highlights the importance of the practitioner-as-context with a goal of building strong collaborative relationships. This training will help well-intentioned practitioners deepen their understanding by engaging in experiential exercises as a parallel to what may occur in sessions with clients.
