A Wider Palette: Why, When and How to Incorporate ACT Into ABA Treatment with Dustin Dixon, BCBA

Dustin Dixon, M.Ed, BCBA

Connections Behavior Planning and Intervention is excited to present a Continuing Education webinar for Behavior Analysts!

Abstract:

Behavior Analysts love ABA for the power it offers to reduce suffering and increase joy with the people we serve. Contingency management is the name of the game here: antecedents and consequences, MO’s and reinforcers – these are the tools of our trade. HOWEVER, as any practiced BCBA can attest, these tools have limitations! When direct-contingency management isn’t enough, it’s critical that we have more options.

In this webinar, we will review a brief timeline of Behavior Analytic accounts of verbal behavior from Skinner to Relational Frame Theory (RFT), discuss Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) with roots in RFT, and leave attendees with a handful of easy interventions they can start implementing right away.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Describe strengths and weaknesses of Skinner’s Verbal Behavior and Sidman’s Stimulus Equivalence
  2. Describe the 6 ACT Processes in behavior-analytic terms
  3. Describe at least three ACT interventions suitable for Behavior Analysts to utilize with clients
