Connections Behavior Planning and Intervention is excited to present a Continuing Education webinar for Behavior Analysts!
This event will be recorded for later viewing in case you register but are unable to join in live.
Abstract:
In recent years, the field of Applied Behavior Analysis has been met with criticisms from members of and advocates for Autistic/Neurodiversity communities. Whether they agree with these criticisms or not, Behavior Analysts working with neurodiverse clients should understand what these criticisms are, where they come from, and how the field might take steps to address these concerns.
In this 1-hour presentation, participants will consider the article by Mathur, Renz & Tarbox (2024), “Affirming Neurodiversity within Applied Behavior Analysis”. Discussion will include five prominent criticisms of ABA, and actionable responses we can take as professionals to address them.
Learning Objectives:
- Describe the difference between the Medical Model of disability vs the Social Model of disability.
- Name 5 common criticisms of Applied Behavior Analysis from Neurodiversity Advocates.
- Describe one strategy to address for each of the 5 common criticisms.
