FREE WEBINAR: The ACT Matrix and Creative Hopelessness w/Lou Lasprugato

Lou Lasprugato, MFT, ACBS Peer-Reviewed ACT Trainer

Connections Behavior Planning and Intervention welcomes Lou Lasprugato, Peer-Reviewed ACT Trainer! This event will provide background on ACT and Contextual Behavior Science, introduce the concept of ‘creative hopelessness’ for motivating clients to embrace behavior change, and the ‘ACT Matrix’: a simple and versatile tool for structuring client-led conversations to identify long-term reinforcers, attending to private events that accompany or elicit undesirable behaviors, and target behaviors for clients to engage in.

About the Presenter

Lou Lasprugato is an internationally recognized trainer and behavioral health provider. He’s a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, with private practices in both California and Virginia (United States), and Peer-Reviewed Trainer in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) with the Association for Contextual Behavioral Science, for which he also serves as chair of the Training Committee. Lou has worked as a psychotherapist in a variety of settings, including an intensive outpatient program at Kaiser Permanente that he subsequently managed, and an integrative medicine program at Sutter Health. Lou has taught mindfulness meditation to health care practitioners and facilitated dozens of training events on ACT and Relational Frame Theory (RFT), as well as co-created courses on nutritional psychology and integrative mental health.  Lou has also provided supervision to other mental health professionals and continues to provide individual consultation on ACT and other contextual behavioral approaches. He earned his Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology, with a specialization in Holistic Studies from Lesley University, Cambridge, MA, following a career as a professional musician.

Abstract

This 2 hour web-based event is designed for ABA practitioners who have some experience using ACT in their practice, and who have met barriers to progress in this process. Mr. Lasprugato will discuss the ACT Matrix as a tool for assessing verbal behavior and identifying appropriate treatments, and will discuss the process of Creative Hopelessness, an ACT-based intervention for helping to facilitate Acceptance by identifying the challenges resulting from avoidance-behaviors.

To get the most from this event, it is encouraged (not required) that attendees bring a partner for practicing the skills discussed.

Learning Objectives

  1. Attendees will perform a functional contextual assessment of behavior via The ACT Matrix.
  2. Attendees will utilize The ACT Matrix to formulate and deliver therapeutic interventions.
  3. Attendees will undermine unworkable experiential avoidance and reinforce valued action.
